Topic 2:  Responsibilities of a Nurse

Discuss the following with regard to the role and responsibilities of a nurse in a community:

• How are the roles of the BSN and the advanced practice nurse in community health different?
• How are nurse practitioners utilized in your community?
• Do they increase access to health care or work for physicians?
• What are the requirements for nurse practitioners in your state?
• What privileges do they have that general nurses do not have?
• Justify your responses using resources.

The discussion will focus on the causes of death. The main causes for deaths within the US include heart disease; cancer; accidents; respiratory diseases; stroke; Alzheimer’s disease; diabetes; pneumonia and influenza; nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis; and intentional harm. In this discussion, causes of death among Non-Hispanic black males belonging to the age group 45-64 years will be compared with Non-Hispanic white males, in the same age group (45- 64 years).

The top ten diseases that cause death among the Non-Hispanic black males aged between 45-64 years include Heart disease; cancer; accidental injuries; diabetes; stroke; kidney disease; respiratory disease; chronic liver disease; homicide; and lastly HIV disease in that order (CDC, 2019).
